Yesterday, we finished the recording of our video. I really think that our school should have
some rooms in art building open late as our studio. We were kicked out from art building at
around 7 p.m., and it was Friday. Let’s
just focus on the process of our project.
After more discussion, we decide that our target audiences could be
freshman who are interesting in design but don't have enough understanding
about the graphic program at CSULA.
Therefore, we want to show the process of how students become graphic
designer. Our first idea was star with
interview with people. However, we
killed that idea, because it was too obviously.
Then, we came up an idea which was to use abstract images to communicate
this process. We recovered the dripping
colors, which is abstract and symbolic. The
idea was that people start blank at here, and come out with colorful minds and their
own unique styles. We tried many times,
finally it looks good on camera.

One more
thing that I learn from Monday’s class is that a good ad is figurative and symbolic. I think it should be communicate the message
clearly with images that are not too obviously.
For example, from our last projects, the ads for blue moon bears are use
the shape of woman’s body to promote the idea of elegant. That is figurative. For this project, our group was having the
interview idea for our video. However,
we changed our idea after more deep discussion and understanding of our
project. Therefore, we are using more abstract
visual images to introduce the process of how student will become a graphic designer
as they study at CSULA graphic design program.

I
saw this ad on the internet today. I
think the image of this ad is very powerful. I believe the mood for this ad is shock. This ad does make me feel shock. Nothing could get more shock and seriously than
a picture of a dead file. I think this
image just told audiences everything they need to know. Also, the head line works with this image
very well too.

I just read an article about the best 30 print ads
today. I think some of those ads are
very interesting.
This ad is for Bazooka gum. I think the targets of audiences for this ad
are kids. The moods of this add is funny
and humor. The huge pink gum bubble is
the first thing jump into my eye. Then, I
realized the boy crashing his go kart into a tree. Therefore, I get the feeling about this
product, which is fun and exciting.
This ad is for Lego.
I think the mood for this ad is between humor and fantastic. This is a very eye catching ad. One Lego piece is bold and appears in the
middle of this ad. Then, its shadow
becomes a shadow of tank. That shows the
possibility of Lego, and how it grows with imagination. However, both of the Bazooka gum ad and Lego
ad don't come with body copy. I saw many
ads that don't really have a body of copy.
I think maybe because of their brand are well-known, so they don't have
to explain more about their product.
